How to get to Rome
Travel Information
By Air
- The Leonardo da Vinci Airport,
Fiumicino, is about 36 km from Rome. A train line connects the
airport to the air terminal, near the Roma Ostiense train
station, every 20 minutes from 5:30 until midnight, costs
approx. 12 Euro and takes approximately 30 minutes. The
terminal is connected via moving platform to the metro station
Pyramid (line B).
- The Ciampino Airport,
16 km southeast of Rome, is the destination for most air
charters and for some domestic lines, and is connected to the
Termini Station by a local train line and by the extra urban
buses.
The other alternative is to travel from each airport to the
city by taxi, which is more comfortable but also more
expensive. The average fare for a taxi ride from Fiumicino or
Ciampino to central Rome is approx. 40 Euro. That is the
predetermined night & day taxi fare (for max. 4 persons in the
same car), it is generally more convenient to go with a
predetermined fare than using a taxi metered cab. You should
ask the taxi driver to apply the predetermined fare when you
get on board the taxi. When not applicable, e.g. if you are
directed to Termini railway station or not in the historical
centre, fares become more expensive at night.
By Train
The Termini Station is where all
international and Italian trains stop. This is located at
Piazza del Cinquecento, near the urban center. The National
Railroad Office - Ufficio dell'Azienda Autonoma delle Ferrovie
di Stato is open from 7:00 to 23:30.
Travelling in Rome
You can use the public transportation in
Rome, travelling by bus, train, tram and
metro.
There are two metro lines: line A - crosses the city from the
western side (via Tuscolana - via Appia) to the Vatican
section; line B - connects the eastern zone (Rebibbia)
crossing line A near Termini Station.
